Week 3 was a little different for us in 5/6 Humanities because the 6th graders were off exploring and adventuring at Nature's Classroom in Maine, so that left the 5th graders all be themselves. We spent that time continuing our daily workshops practicing skills in Geography and Grammar, as well as working on how to collect and use evidence from a text when we are reading. We discussed several different topics (benefits of school gardens, effects of social media on global society, pros and cons of school uniforms) using our discussion skills and adding in evidence that was provided about each topic. We also read an interesting article about the impact of strong communities on happiness. Norway is ranked number one on the world in terms of happiness, whereas the United States is ranked fourteenth. What does that tell us about our sense of community in the U.S.? It was a very full week, and we will spend next week catching the 6th graders up on what they missed.
